My family loves Cookout. We go to the Roanoke,Va.location.We have never had any problems with them.We have been there at all times of the day.
I just want u all to know I went to the Cookout in Rocky mount Va onApril 13 2013 snd got a Coke Float and as I was trying to sip it thru the straw it was thick so I finally got some up in the straw and something got hung in my throat and I got choked on it as it went down and I looked in the cup and there were pieces of Saran Wrap in the coke float, I took it back down there and the manager didn’t want to do anything about it ,All he said was COULD I MAKE U ANOTHER COKE FLOAT. Oh I was angry so thats when I called the cookout headquarters and today is May14,2013 and this happened on April13,2013 and its been a month and they still don;t want to do anything about it. So therefore I am going to contact me a lawyer if they don’t want to do anything about this. That is so wrong. They need to take care of this problem. Nethertheless to say The employees should have been watching what they were doing. This isn;t over with yet
I am writing to let u know that I was at the Cookout in Rocky Mount Va on April13 2013 and purchased a Coke Float and as I was trying to drink it thru a straw something got in my mouth and got hung in my throat. I finally got it back up and swallowed some of it and there was pieces of Saran Wrap in my coke float, I took the float back down to Cookout that same nite and all the manager said was ” Can I make u another one.” That is so wrong. He never ask if I was o.k. or anything.I still have the pieces of saran Wrap that was in the float.I sent it all to them and my drs report and u know it;s May 14 2013 and they haven’t done anything about it as of yet. Now I am contacting me a lawyer and see what I can have done about this because there was no reason in the world that Saran wrap should have been in the Coke Float. Its been a month now and they haven’t done anything so I will go ahead and continue with a lawyer and get something done about it since they don’t want to do anything. I still have trouble with my stomach and still can’t swallow like I suppose to but do they care . NO
When is the location in Portsmouth VA going to open? So excited!
Love, love LOVE the Milkshakes! I am almost sorry they are so close to me, because now I am addicted – My favorite two (so far) is the peanut butter Heathbar and the blueberry cheesecake – I haven’t tried anything else on the menu
YO!!! This place is wayyyyy better than McDonalds’ !!! it beats the taste and price! Cook out is definitely on my favorite lunch place list!
I can’t believe all of the bad reviews! I love the Cookout here in Charleston S.C! The burgers and cheesefries are the bomb.
Just went to the new location in Norfolk, VA on Monticello, Coke Float was all ice cream no Coke. They gave is a Pork BBQ Combo instead of a Chicken Combo. The fries were obviously old and cold, ad we got five tiny onion rings. They didn’t even put the food in a bag. Napkins were flying on the ground because there was no bag. Ridiculous!
let’s get that nutrition information on here ASAP.
Just got back from the Cookout in Maryville, tn. What a dissappointment. It was supposed to be “BBQ”….nothing bbq about it. The meat lookd like it had been run thru a blender. No difference in taste betwen the meat and the bun. A very small dap of slaw on the sandwich. The meat was totally flavorless….had no smoky flavor whatsoever. The slaw if you want to call it that was nothing more than chopped cabbage with a little onion…again no flavor. Onion rings?? You got all of four (4) small ones. Whoo hoo. Needless tosay my family will never cross their threshold again.
Tried the new location in Maryville, Tn! First time to a Cookout place and am really happy with the great tasting burgers!
Will definitely return and try more items from the menu. The whole place was spotless even with the huge crowd coming and going. Only “complaint” is a little too much salt-otherwise a great experience!
Not a great experience! I got the barbeque plate. There was just a splash of sauce on the barbeque, no ketchup, for the fries and hushpuppies, no fork or spoon. Terrible!
We ordered a couple burgers at the University Cook Out drive-through location on North Tryon Street this evening and we had to ask for our change and did not receive a single napkin in the bag. I think the service at this location is poor and won’t be going back. We have a “HWY 55 Burger” place that just opened recently in our area and will most certainly go there in the future. No drive through but much better service!!!
I tried Cook-Out for the first time in Rockhill, SC and fell in love with it. Great food at a great price. When it came to Charleston, I was so excited. All the restaurants in the area suffered because of them. Lately, however, the service and food quality has gone down hill. I work at a local hospital and I would go there after work or during lunch. I didn’t mind waiting – it was worth it. However, the last 3 times I have been there, the orders have been all wrong, the food was not the best they have ever made, and there are so many hot rods from local car clubs running around, you take the chance of being killed. When I complained to the lady about the cars, she said she knew but there was nothing she could do. Hello – CALL THE COPS! The food – from awesome to awful. BBQ sandwiches too much hot sauce and no slaw. Order orion rings and you may get 3 with a new chicken nuggets, like me. I’m sorry, I would rather go to a more expensive restaurant and know I am getting my order right than going all the way home only to find out once again they screwed up. I even asked the lady at the window if she had checked it and she said yes. Maybe a little retraining is in order. Also, I am not sue I am willing to keep patronizing a place whose own owners what to remain anonymous. Yes, we have their names, but no website to contact them, no email – something doesn’t sound right here.
The Statesville, NC location has horrible restrooms. The men’s restroom was disgusting. Paper towels stuffed in the toilet and urinal. Trash can over flowing into the floor, used paper towels on the floor. Sink was very dirty hand soap dispenser broke off the wall and lying on the counter empty. From what I heard the women’s restroom was in about the same condition. The dining room had trash on the floor and over have the tables had trash and food particles stuck to them. Meanwhile the staff showed no guidance or leadership to even attempt to correct the disgusting issues. I for one will NOT be returning.
I was surprised to see that several other reviewers had such bad experiences at Cook Out. I have had consistently good and friendly service at the Durham, NC locations. I am a particular fan of the Reese’s Peanut Butter milkshake–lots of flavor, not bland at all. I recently tried a blueberry cheesecake milkshake, which was also flavorful. I don’t like their French fries–they aren’t crispy enough.
cookout in Eden NC is a joke. I sat in line 30 minutes just to try and get 3 shakes. And to top it all they gave me the wrong shake. They gave me a plain vanilla when I ordered a banana. I could get a plain vanilla anywhere with having to deal with sitting in line for 30 mins. Will never visit it again.
I am also surprised that some of the reviewers have not had a great experience. I am a frequent visitor to the Spartanburg store and am impressed with the cleanliness and the quality of the food. My absolute favorite is the BLT sandwich. I live in Statesboro, GA and wish that we had a cookout here. It is a 4-hour drive to Spartanburg, but when I am within reach, Cookout is on my agenda.
I wish the owners would consider franchising and open a store in Statesboro.
The Cookout in Maryville, TN just opened a few days ago. We waited to try it to let the traffic die down a bit, but it was still heavily busy. Anyway, we had a large order, with a couple of sandwiches special ordered due to preference and food allergies. One Huge Cheddar Style Hamburger was not fixed correct, and one Huge Out West Style was not fixed correct (food allergy order). The other five sandwiches and three FF orders were only slightly warm. I understand they were busy and some things are out of our control, but this was a drive-thru order and when we discovered the two hamburgers were incorrect, we looked on the receipt to call back. To my surprise there was no phone number on the receipt or the printed menu that was being given out in the back up line of the drive-thru. The new store isn’t listed on the The Cookout locations on this site, only the Knoxville store, but they don’t have a phone number listed either, nor is it listed on the 411 information number. So, as you can see this situation is highly frustrating. How does the establishment expect to rectify a wrong order when there is no contact information??? That is highly unprofessional.
We went to the Sanford location. I ordered a cook out style tray with cheese, lettuce, and tomato. My burger was missing the chili, onions, mustard, and the slaw was on the side. I ordered Cajun salt on my fries and it was missing too. I also ordered my son a regular order of fries and was giving large. It’s been awhile since I’ve been to a cookout but was looking forward to a good Southern style burger and instead was greatly disappointed.
My husband and I went to the Cook out in Burlington, NC last night, my first and last time ever! We both ordered a burger and a side of fries. I thought the total she gave seemed high, but shoved it off. Once we got out order and pulled off from the window I looked at the receipt and they had charged us for two large drinks that we had neither ordered nor received! So we went back to the window and I handed the girl our receipt and explained that we had been charged fro drinks we didn’t order. She said when we order a “tray” we automatically get charged for drinks. I told we had not ordered trays, we had ordered a burger and a fry separately (both of which are listed on the menu separately, no mention of a “tray” anywhere). She finally acted like she was going to refund the money for the drinks but only handed me enough money to refund one of them. I told her we had been charged for two and again went through the explanation of the “trays”. I again told her I had not ordered a tray! I then informed her I would rather get the drinks than be charged for something I wasn’t receiving, so she got us the drinks. We went home to eat. The drinks were flat (that I didn’t even want in the first place!),and the burgers were horrible, I could have made a better one at home. The fries were good. So, we were charged for drinks we didn’t order (I have NEVER been through a fast food window anywhere else and ordered a burger and fries and then been charged for drinks I didn’t order and then told I ordered a “tray”…NO I DIDN’T), got flat drinks, nasty burgers, and the server was a rude idiot. I will NEVER return to this establishment nor to any other Cook Out! I will stick to McDonald’s!
There are people who are going to complain and will not be pleased with anything. Great prices and good food from all my visits. If you want perfection, go to a high priced steak house and spend a lot of money. Then you can complain about the food and/or service. Venting, I’m sorry. Naw I’m not!!!
The best ever.. I can only visit maybe twice every two weeks…too many calories. However, the food is AWESOME!
Geez just thinking giving a review makes me wanna go after work. Try it, you wont be disappointed.
Wish the youngsters would pay more attention. Never got my shake and finally left. seems they had a disagreement behind the counter and they needed the 2 dollar shake upgrade more than i did
Thank you for opening Cook Out in Portsmouth, VA. I tried the BBQ plate today, and it was delicious! I really liked the hushpuppies! The prices are great too! My drive thru experience was absolutely outstanding. The employees were so cheerful and friendly. I would also like to thank you for putting God Bless America and scriptures on your drinking cups and bags. What a wonderful way to share the gospel with others. I will definitely be a regular customer. I am already looking forward to my next visit. God Bless Cook Out!
Just visited the Sugar Creek store in Charlotte and I’m rather displeased with the experience. Ordered 2 milkshakes at the drive thru, to which the order was not repeated, nor was the total given. Made it to the window and not a word was said the entire time! No “hello” or order total, repeat of what was ordered, absolutely nothing. No receipt given either. And on top of that, the milkshakes were wrong! That store has been in a steep decline since we moved to the area.
My kids and I visit your restaurant probably about 4 times a week and the last three times my order was screwed up! Especially this last time we normally go to get banana pudding milkshakes, this time we ordered 4 of them and when we got them only 1 was banana pudding 1 was banana fudge and the other 2 were banana berry! My kids were so upset and we went back to change them out and the drive thru lady said we couldn’t trade them because they were already drank out of so I basically wasted 12 dollars on the first 4 then had to pay another 9 dollars to get three other banana pudding ones! We usually have to drive about 20 minutes to get to cookout, but after these last times of it being wrong it makes me not want to waste the gas to go to cookout or waste all the money since it was not my faulty they were messed up! I wanted to tell you this so it doesn’t happen to other people because we truly love your restaurant but we will not be going back for a long while or possibly ever!
Cookout is a great value. The food is fantastic, and the shakes are their signature item. We went to cookout almost every time we would make a trip to North Carolina. I’m so glad they have broken out and now have locations in Virginia. I was glad to see one as close as Radford. I would also like to take this time to mention that their is a rundown closed Arby’s in Wytheville that would serve as a good location for the franchise.
I was very disapointed in my service this evening at the Monroe NC location. around 930 a white male took our order and was very obiously having a bad day. After a long wait he asked us to pull forward where we waited and waited. I almost drove off when he opened the window and took payment. He then threw my card to me and my napkins and such and we waited for a good while longer. He took orders and had our shakes sitting on the counter next to him. I put my car in park and we waited longer. Finally the two cups I thought were ours sitting on the counter were given to us. Of course melted now. He slamed the window after. No thank you, no “F” you, nothing. Needless to say I will not be back. At least at Mc Donalds they appreciate your business.
I cannot wait to try this restaurant in Newport News, VA. I want to see what is on the menu. I would go there after shopping at Sam’s Club.
Statesville NC cookout has messed up my orders at take out more often than they are correct, almost always leaving something off my order, well today they stooped to a new low, checked my order and it was all there and when I went to eat it a hotdog I ordered did not even have a hotdog in the bun. This restaurant never ceases to amaze me how they can mess up an order.
I am really disappointed thatyou changed your burgers. It’s taken me awhile to write because I didn’t want to complain. But I feel I have to say something. I do not eat at Cook Out as much now. I used to get your double burger. It had nice thick burgers. Now they have 2 thin burgers. I can get a burger just like that from McDonald’s for $1. I’m sorry but I felt the need to tell why I no longer eat there. Please bring back the larger burgers.
After many attempts over several days- sent different people each attempt- the Conway, SC location is unable to make a mint chocolate chip milkshake. They keep filling the order with chocolate chip. Many friends have complained of wrong orders also and people have decided that particular store is too frustrating to frequent as they can’t produce what you order. Reputations are ruined quickly in Conway so they better step it up.
tried cookout at Greenville sc site,, you all must be competitors with krystals, because that’s the size of the burger.. spent 11.00 and change for wife and I, 2 extremely small burgers, 4 onion rings, half small cup of dry slaw, burgers were precooked, dry and cold, rings were hard and cold, slaw was cut cabbage with no mayo, 1 tiny piece lettuce 2 1/8 long and 11/4 wide, yes went to car for tape measure, small slice of onion and dab of mayo !!, tomatoe was extra, was hangout for teenyboppers drinking soda, loud and not clean !, my family will never return for this garabge, and shame on you for ripping people off.
Well I just came from the Cook Out this morning in Portsmouth,VA. I ordered the Cheddar Style burger and some chili cheese fries. Everything was fresh and hot. I see a lot of negative reviews up here, maybe it is best to catch them right when they open in the mornings like I did.
Excellent service, food and prices. Great place for a family to have a quality meal. Thank you for coming to Statesboro, GA.
I absolutely love cookout!
I live in Fayetteville, NC and almost every other day, I’m at the Legion Road location, grabbing a shake or onion rings or a tray. When you put it into perspective, Cook Out has the BEST value for meals now a days. $4.25 (plus tax) for a main dish and two sides? I’m game anytime.
I just had it for the first time today. I had the Cajun chicken with slaw and onion rings. It was tasty and cheap. Totally blow all the other big chain burgers in comparable price range out of the water.
I’m gonna go back and try the burger and shake next time.
Hello, I just left a cookout in Clemson sc off tiger blvd very disappointed not only did the young lady at the drive through give me adittude but I left because I was so pissed off by it. I will never go there again she flicked me of as I was leaving!! They will no longer get my service!
Cook out in Goldsboro NC is the best!!! Service is great.. the employees are always cheerful and welcoming. My food is always made FAST. And the other day my sandwich was wrong and the Lady working the window fixed it and kept apologizing even though she didnt mess it up.. it just made me feel appreciated! They do rush a little but its fast food! I love this location I definitely think its the best in the business!!!
Earlier today I drove 20 minutes from Virginia beach to try the cookout in Norfolk.
I just returned from my second 50 minute round trip to eat there again.
Cook Out was recommended to my ministry family by other members of our ministry from the N. Carolina and Virginia areas. I must say….IT WAS ABSOLUTELY D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!! There was a car load of us and we stopped at 3 different locations within 2 hours to try different items and shakes. Everyone was pleased with there selections. We were also very, very, very excited to discover that the business is owned by Christians…what a bonus for the Kingdom!!! We just really wish that there was a location closer to Birmingham, AL *sad face* but we’e optimistic about the future to build near us soon…Speak a thing and it shall be!!!
Just ate at the new Cook-Out in Williamsburg, VA. Food was awesome and the shake was the best I’ve ever had!
Tried new location in WilliamburgVirginia for first time. Fast service however their execution is not good. I order the burger tray cheddar style no mayo, they gave another type went to the counter and they gave the wrong one again. Probably the cooks are not paying attention to the orders. Worst chilli is like a puree…it have to be from a can…
I just had cookout today for the first time in a while. I got the BBQ sandwich tray, but this time everything tasted smoked. The fries were phenomenal. They tasted unlike any fries I’ve had before. Wilmington, NC cookout, keep doing what you’re doing.
Went to Greenville SC Cookout – 4 onion rings! Really? Food was OK for price, but 4 onion rings, IS THERE A SHORTAGE?????????
Well I’m pretty sure Cook Out will be expanding in Georgia!! I live in Statesboro and we are the first Cook Out in the state! This is the third day in a row that i have went to Cook Out for lunch!! It is amazing!! I’m a wee bit addicted! Food and service are awesome! Haven’t heard a bad thing about it yet! Keep it up!! Bible verses and Sayings are an awesome touch as well! Thanks for opening one up here!! God bless!
Need COOKOUT restaurants in the northern states, specifically Connecticut! Please hurry!
Hi, I just visited the Clemson SC Cookout at just after 3:00am. There were lewd drawings in the fog on the windows, and the floats we received were barely cold. I went to ask for a replacement, was informed that the ice cream machine wasn’t working properly and received the same runny mess — which was disappointing because we have always loved Cookout floats.
So I went to cookout to get my family some dinner. I got a footlong hotdog for my husband and a regular hotdog for my son, and a hamburger for me. Came back home to eat to find out they did not put a hotdog on either my sons or husbands. Talking about MAD……. Usually I am impressed but not this time. How can you forget to put a hotdog on a bun? East Road location in Richmond Va
