I have been to thr rockymount va cookout three times now and they cant get a order right, the food sucks and the people are rude. thank God we got the best McDonald’s where people care because im not going back to that cookout dump again.
The BBQ at the Morristown TN location sucks. My husband ordered a cheddar burger with tomato and it was loaded down with onions and the one slice o tomato that was hard. The dining lobby wasn’t very clean either. My BBQ had no flavor and I didn’t want Texas Pete hot sauce on mine. Won’t be eating there again. Much rather had a Crazy Good Burger.
have been by the boone, nc location. got to this website, checked out the menu…too bad there are not any vegetarian options `(veggie burger~~), and could not find any link. to contact them..guess i will go back to comeback shack……or our daily bread `(YUM`) or tucker’s cafe. good thing there are better options….
Oh dear. We wanted to try the new Cook Out in Harrisonburg, VA. Where to start? The barbecue sandwich was almost absolutely tasteless except for the extraordinary amount of pepper added to it. (Was that why?) Perhaps it had a teaspoon at most of coleslaw on top. My mouth burned from the pepper for an hour afterwards. Shame on me for being hungry and eating it anyway! Husband’s hamburger tasted better, but AGAIN, way too much pepper. Charged extra for a small tomato slice and also charged for plastic cheese. Called the toll free number. Was offered a replacement meal coupon, and told them NOT interested. What a disappointment, we had hoped for so much better. You get what you pay for?
Have been to Cookout several times in the Johnson City, Tn location and they have never disappointed me. Also tried the one in Boone, NC and it was exceptional as well. Heard rumors we are getting one in Bristol, Tn and am hoping it’s true. You can’t go wrong with Cookout!!!
I am impatiently awaiting a decision on building a store in Greer, SC.
Please build it!!!
I drove across town the other night to get a milkshake from Cookout. I could have gone to many other restaurants but I had heard Cookout has great milkshakes. Well the “peach” milkshake I got was actually a bland vanilla milkshake with two big chunks of flavorless peach. It was a huge disappointment. I won’t go back to Cookout for another milkshake.
I am not sure how to contact you with this info but I have the phone number for two Charleston, SC locations which were quite hard to find… contact me if you’d like them.
Just came from the cookout and the guy from the drive thru window was very rude, if it wasn’t raining so hard I would have went in and spoke to the manager the boy name was prince but there was so many ppl at rhe window you can’t be for sure that was the rude person name. Jacksonville nc
Awesome Christian atmosphere! Love the shakes! Grandkids want to go here everytime we go out to eat. Keep it up!
I stopped in the Cookout on Freedom Dr. in Charlotte NC and ordered one regular hamburger with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and mustard. I drove off without unwraping and taking the burger apart to see if the order was correct (should I really have to do this for one burger)? Because I was in a hurry I would eat it while driving to my destination. Surprise! The only thing between the bun was a hamburger patty. I don’t know if you’ve ever eaten a burger with nothing on it but it is so dry it’s very hard to get down the pipes. No time to go back so they can make it right, that’s why we go to fast food places because in theory it is supposed to be a quick and easy experience. For $3.02 I get a dry meat patty on a bun. Won’t be going to Cookout anymore.
I just got a combo meal at the Roanoke location. I was surprised and really disappointed with the service and even my meal was wrong. There were three cars in front of me and it took ten minutes to get to the window to pick up my order. When I got tot the window my order was wrong and they didn’t give me my drink, when I asked for it the young man said I Bellevue i already gave it to you, Like really why with just me would I want two drinks. Everyone on the speaker and at the window acted like it was there first day. Cook out can do better than this. My order was #1206 check to see who was there and retrain them, IF the young man at the window was on the management staff please fire him today! Everywhere else that I have eaten at Cook out it has best the burger in town but the roanoke store has a long way to go to even beat Mcdonalds!
Cookout is seriously, well in my opinion,THE best fast food chain. Everything under the menu is under five dollars. It’s large portions, the food is amazing and the service is almost always good. Most of my family lives in NC but I lived in FL most of my life but moved there occasionally,I just recently discovered Cookout when I last moved there last September. I was addicted to it. I recently moved back to FL and all I want in life right now is a Cookout stationed close to me. I love you all of you guys and girls working hard in those kitchens making that delicious, affordable food everyone gets to enjoy. Please never shut down. Oh and after eating their food for so long I still never got fat. Much love <3
COOK OUT IS AMAZING. Everything is good on the menu. The one in Columbia has really impressed me. It’s the only fast food I eat now.
We eat at the one in morristown tn all the time the food is always great.
I am a lover of your peanutbutter and bananna milkshake, But your straws will stop up and calaspe. I have to go to Mcdonalds to get a straw to enjoy a good cookout milkshake. Please change your straws, Make them bigger in diamiter and stronger, And please make them RED to match your big red sign, That way people will know you have made a change in your straws. Your buisness will pick-up i guarantee you.
Respectivly summitted; Whitey Hamilton Hickory Grove S.C.
I truly enjoying eating a cookout. It is one of my favorite places to eat and get a milkshake. Today I got a m&m milkshake and while enjoying it I had peanut butter and peanuts in the milk shake. I was a little frustrated towards the end because it was not what I order. It also had me concerned since if I was allergic to peanuts it would not have turn out well. I just wanted to make you all aware of my experience this past visit. I pray it will not happen again. Again I love this place, the food, and the milkshakes. Have a wonderful day!!!
It’s kind of disappointing to see so many people have had bad experiences at Cookout. I go to the Cookout in NC down on Capital Blvd. and every time I’ve gone it is very good and consistent. I’ve never had anyone rude take my order at the drive-thru window. If I had to recommend a milkshake it’d be the Oreo one, full of pieces of Oreo cookie, really delicious!
I went to the new Cook Out location in Norfolk, VA because everybody kept going on and on about how good it was and they were right ! The food is great quality for what you pay for. The milkshakes are delicious and the spicy chicken sandwich I had was to die for ! You have to go !
BOYCOTT*** COOKOUT RESTUARANT IN WILSON,NC***They dont protect their customers. They allow gangs to hang out in there parking lot to intimidate paying customers. YOU WILL NEVER GET MY SERVICE AGAIN!!!!! GUARANTEED!!!
I just went to the cookout store on North Main Street in High Point, NC and ordered the two hot dog tray. I requested chilli, mustard, onions, and ketchup on the hot dog. I probably should’ve checked the order before I pulled off, but I didn’t. When I got back to work, the only things I had on my hot dogs were ketchup and onions. So, I drove back to cookout, to advise them that I was missing chilli. A young girl took my food from me and said she would add the chilli and mustard. Then comes a hispanic lady whom I assume was the acting manager. She advised me that she would add the missing items this time, but next time, she wouldn’t unless I paid. Ummm, I’m not the one who messed up my order, the cookout staff is. This is definitely not the first time that this cookout has messed up my order. Most recently was on Saturday, March 30th. I ordered the two hot dog tray with chilli, mustard onions, and ketchup, but got two hot dogs with cheese and ketchup. I also ordered a few other items from the menu, and a total of 3 drinks and a milkshake. Well, when I got home, that’s when I discovered the incorrect condiments on the hot dogas well as the fact that I didn’t have one of my drinks. I didn’t bother to go back to the restaurant, as it was an inconvenience. A few days before, my order was incorrect again, but I didn’t go back for the same reason as before. I just wish this staff would understand the importance of getting someone’s order correct, as there are several people out there with food allergies and the incorrect ingredients could become fatal. My experience today may very well be the determining factor that says that I will not dine at cookout anymore. I am still deciding, as what the “manager” said to me definitely rubbed me the wrong way.
I ate at the Roanoke site for the 1st time 4-2-13. It was terrible. My friend got the Bar-B-Q. What was that thing? It gagged her. The meat(?) was pale tan and looked and smelled terrible. I had ordered 2 hot dogs and the buns were so hard on the edges I had to tear them off. The coleslaw side was just chopped cabbage and watery mayo? I will not be going back.
I am writing this review because I experience a huge displeasure at the Cookout on 12471 Jefferson Ave, located in Newport News, VA. The first time I was introduced to Cookout was by way of my daughter, who attends VCU in Richmond Virginia.
One day, we drove to the Cookout located at 4802 W Broad St, where I was introduced to the “thickest milkshake,” I have tasted since leaving Clarksville Tennessee. Prior to this moment, Jack in the Box was the only fast food restaurant that I knew which provided such a shake, which was thick and rich. Thick enough, you needed a spoon.
My daughter would often speak about how thick Cookout’s shakes were, so one had to find out. Yes, it was true. Cookout shakes was very thick, and rich enough to eat with a spoon. So rich that trying to suck it through a straw proved very difficult. The thickness of the shake was so strong; I was able to drive from Richmond, VA to Newport News, VA (68 miles) and the shake hardly melted. To me that was impressive.
Yet, just the other day, (Wed 3, 2013), I went to the Cookout in Newport News, and purchased a BBQ Tray (Order 3307, 8:51 pm) with a “strawberry fancy shake.” I then drove less than two miles to my home in Kiln Creek, and by the time I got inside the house, the shake was very runny and lacked any thickness. I could not believe what I was experiencing. I was so mad because I have long yearned for a thick shake from Cookout, since it opened in NN. Well, they will never ever have to worry about me again. If I want a shake, I will just wait until I go to Richmond.
I suggest that the Newport News, restaurant contact the Richmond restaurant to gain knowledge of what the standard is because apparently, the Cookout in NN has yet to discover what the standard is for making a good shake at Cookout. “Then again, if you do not know, you just do not know.”
here is the coporate number!
we still love cookout!

Growing up in a small town, its hard to expect great burgers from a fast-food chain at a reasonable price. However, the Cookout is awesome! Everything I have ever tried has been hot and fresh. The wait is never very long, due in part to having 2 different drive-thru lanes open, but also to great management and staff on duty. Last night, my husband and I visited the Cookout, located on Western Boulevard in Jacksonville, NC and had a great experience. We went through the alternate drive-thru and received our order fresh but quickly. The girl in the window, Brittany, said she hadn’t been there but a few weeks but she was very helpful. The tea was great, it was just warm and so I asked her for more ice. Without breaking her smile, or eye contact, she quickly filled my cup again with ice. Its not customary to tip a girl in the drive-thru but she earned it, just a couple of bucks. We waited to eat when we got home, (about 30 miles away), and upon arrival I found that I did not get the Steakhouse burger I wanted, just a regular burger. It was after midnight and I was not going to go back to fix it so I ate it anyway. It was good, just not what I wanted. There was plenty and we got enough to eat, so we weren’t upset. Main point: Brittany did her job very well, and its important that people know that even when everything isn’t perfect a great smile and attitude can make up for it! Nice job Brittany, and nice management from the Cookout team! Look forward to spending many more dollars with you!
Always Enjoy Food And Economy….But MANAGEMENT IS LACKING….WET FLOORS, OVERFLOWING TRASH, NO CONDIMENTS OR NAPKINS IS NOT ENCOURAGING TO MANY FIRST TIME VISITORS… YOU NEED A BETTER CHECKLIST. I’ll BE BACK…
The food is great and I love it but I am still very disappointed that the nutrition information has not been revealed.
Love eating at Cookout Grill. Burgers are thick, fresh & delicious and I love the chocolate chip milkshake. We ate at the one in Anderson, SC today & heard that one is coming to Athens, GA. We sure hope the owner will consider building one in Flowery Branch area – new hospital and four-laning of the highway (near 85 & 985) is taking place now. Would be a GREAT location. We will be on the lookout!
Please, please, please post the nutrition information and ingredients on your website. For those of us wanting to make healthy choices, we need to figure out if your restaurant is included in those choices.
After the second time finding a hair in my burger from the Johnson City, TN location I called corporate. Spoke to Dawn. Asked for the regional manager to call me so we could discuss the problem. Since it has been a week with no call I guess I will be sharing this with the health department and local news outlets. I kept the hair by the way… Lost my business and everyone I know. Hope everyone enjoys their burgers and have a great day.
In morristown the shakes are too thick and have no flavor, when Cookout start everything is delicious, but now a dont know what happend :/ I buy a Vainilla shake and is the same to eat a vainilla ice cream in a cup that not a Shake
I went to the Cookout in Fuquay Varina, NC. I ordered 2 grill chicken club sandwiches and a large french fry.
I was charged $6.78 for 2 chicken and $1.20 for 2 club style. that comes out to $3.99 per sandwich. The menu on this website shows the price for 1 chicken club style sandwich to be $3.69. One other time I ordered a regular hamburger w/o cheese but with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I got charges extra for the tomato. I don’t know if this is the way the orders are suppose to be rung up or am I being ripped off. Sincerely.
Went to the Cookout on Jefferson Ave in Newport News Virginia, for my third time since they opened. It seems to me that things are starting to go down hill. Walk into this location with a fifty dollar order. Charged me for a large chill fry, needless to say I didn’t receive them, but was charged for them including a double hit on the chilli and on the cheese.
After looking for a telephone number to call the store there was none, you have to call a toll free number. NOT TO PERSONNEL FOR CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP.
Ordered a BLT which stands for lettuce, tomotoes, bacon according to Cookout there is tomotoes on a BLT WOW what a surprise. My chicken quesadea had no chicken, and the chicken wrap was over cooked.
Cookout makes it very hard to the customer to large a complaint(OR MAYBE THEY REALLY DON’T WANT TO HEAR FROM THEIR CUSTOMERS)
JUST A HEADS UP FOR EVERYONE
I just tried your restaurant in Richmond, VA. DISAPPOINTMENT! Everything about the order was wrong. I ordered a burger with lettuce, tomato, pickle, Cajun, mustard did not get the lettuce or tomato. My sister ordered cole slaw as a side and got fries. She ordered a cheese burger, was charged for the cheese and didn’t get it. They forgot to give us our drinks. We both agreed we will not be going back.
I usually enjoy CookOuts food but today my order was completely wrong. I ordered the Cook out sytely burger combo (no onions) with fries and a corndog. Instead of a corn dog, i received a grilled cheese sandwich and the burger was FULL of onions. I was on my lunch break and the parking lot was full to capacity, so i coulndt park and go in.
It was the first time my girlfriend and I have been there , heard it was very good. We both ordered burgers and went home. I started into my burger and it was good , but after the third bite hair in my food. I spit it out threw up and was so upset I just wasted 5 bucks. My girlfriends chedard cheese burger had bacon that was not cook throughly. We were so dissappointed and will not be going back. I had this meal in Greenwood SC.
Stopped by the Cookout in Laurinburg, NC today and was very displeased. When I paid at the pick-up window, one of the employees in the background, not sure if it management or not, but this employee was shouting constant profanity at other employees. It seemed like maybe some short of management or shift leader because they were demanding the other employee to get a milkshake made. The individual was belittling the employee and he started banging on things as well, in the middle of his shouting. This shouting, banging, and cursing could be heard even with the drive thru window closed. I think this is a very bad representation of Cookout and customers should not have to be subjected to this type of service.
I have been to the cookout in Harrisonburg, VA and was not real impressed, They do’n't give you time to look at the menu and they got the order wrong. There is now one in my hometown and I thought I would give it a chance. Again you don’t really have time to look at the menu, the employees were rude and they got the order wrong. I called the 800 number and they didn’t act like they really cared. Needless to say, I won’t be going back. I will go to Steak and Shake when they open next month
the cookout in danville va is extremely slow unlike the others i have been to they are nowhere as effecient as other cookouts the food is good that’s the only reason I keep going back they are too slow and will start to affect business
The food might taste great but the nutritional Value is probably the worst in the Country for a Fast Food Restaurant! The shakes alone are over 1000cal each without added toppings.
I’ve noticed they have High Turnover as well due to poor management training and unprofessional acts that border sexual harassment at the store levels.
Reports of Uncleanliness in some of there lobby stores and pressure on the staff to produce drive threw times that aren’t reasonable and cause High levels of Stress to the Staff.
Its not all about how fast but more about customer care that this company needs to focus on to continue growth! Examples a more Healthy menu option and nutritional facts on the menu. Most of all treat there employees better I feel based on what I’ve seen when I’ve interviewed former and current staff.
Mediocre food + generally unfriendly service (due to the fact that every location seems like a hellish place to work) = best damn fast food chain (except for maybe roy rogers). Cookout is the best aesthetic fast food experience you can have and amazing milkshakes.
Why is it that the store on Cumberland ave in Knoxville Tennessee ALWAYS has a line wrapped through the parking lot with only 5 cars and it takes 16 minutes to even place the order!?!?!? I am now stuck in this line unable to leave because some of the employees block one of the exits with their cars. The wait time is ridiculously long and it seems like they are either short staffed 100 percent of the time or they are just lazy and slow or management doesn’t seem to care enough to hire more people do something about it. I will never go through there again or recommend that location to anyone
I first tried Cook-Out in Johnson City, TN while at ETSU and ate it all the time because it was so fast, tasty, and SO cheap. Never had anything I didn’t like. I transferred to another school closer to home, and luckily not long after, they opened the one in Morristown, TN and I was SO excited. Its nice to have that food close to home. Its always fast, steaming hot, and completely satisfying! ALSO, the decor inside the Morristown Cook- Out (with the high-end wooden “picnic style” tables) is so nice My family and I spent hours catching up. My order has only ever been wrong once (and it was a big order) and the the owner of the store walked a new and correct piping hot burger out to my car personally! Thanks, Cook-Out, for exceptional service and spectacular food!
Had a WONDERFUL dinner at the Cookout in Danville, Va. Service was courteous, polite and helpful. The server seemed to enjoy going through the menu, assisting in our selections and taking our order. Our dinner (cookout style cheeseburgers, fries) were fresh and piping hot. Our shakes were too perfection. The store was very clean–and that was being maintained all the time. The decor was comfortable and welcoming. I hadn’t eaten at Cookout for years (Greensboro Battleground location) and it was so nice to be able to go inside, sit down and have a “fast food” meal in a great environment. Sometimes, you just don’t want to “drive around!” A meal at Cookout makes national chains pale in comparison. WE ARE FANS and we’ll be eating there often since moving to the Danville area. Keep up the great work!
Usually my experience at cookout is great! Great food and fast service. But yesterday I went to the location in Monroe, NC and I am never ever going back again. The employee on the intercom taking my order kept asking “anything else” in a very rude tone, then when I pulled to the window she told me the total then threw my change at me. She asked me if I wanted any sauce and then slammed the window shut before I could say anything else. Are these the kind of people you want working with the food and customers? She was a younger Hispanic women with a terrible attitude. I work in food service and that is unacceptable. I don’t care if you are busy or not. Have manners and treat customers with respect, I mean you do get hired for that reason. She should be fired. I mean there are plenty of other qualified individuals waiting in line to get jobs and these nasty rude people are working? Food service is all about making people happy and wanting to come back. Well I am not happy and I will never go back every again.
Usually love Cookout. Very disappointed in a visit today. Didn’t receive part of our drive-through order. We were short a double order of fries from my combo and my wife was short a corn dog.
Styrofoam: Why? I love the food, but today I made the decision not to go again until you change your practice of giving out tons of Styrofoam (which is actually recyclable) and then not offering a way to recycle it. So I carried it all home, which is ridiculous. What bothers me if all the Christian messages on the cups and other Styrofoam things. You put John 3:16 on a huge Styrofoam drink cup, but I’m sure you’ve read the first chapter of Romans. Paul beautifully points out that “All creation speaks of the invisible qualities and divine nature of God, so that no one can have an excuse” (on the day of judgment.) So yes, “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son”: specific revelation. Creation: general revelation, and as important a witness of God’s love—for most people, the only one. So, guys, get it together. This is America—we’re supposed to know better. I live in Asheville, NC—one of the most progressive towns in the country where your restaurants stand out like a sore thumb. Take a look at In and Out on the west coast—also a Christian hamburger chain serving great food, but with an eco-God centered conscience. They put their scriptures on a paper cup and then offer recycling. Paper will break down in less than a year. If profit is what you are going for, you can learn a lesson there; I’m pretty sure their sales per store far out shine yours. My meal was finished in 10 minutes; the Styrofoam will take 1+ million years to decompose. Not worth it. Your food is good, but not that good…
Went to the Statesville, NC location a month ago on daughter’s recommendation. Never been to Cook-Out before. Was so impressed! For approx. $12 we got so much good food! Daughter had bacon cheeseburger, with 2 sides and a chocolate milkshake. I got the BBQ plate, was tasty and spicy, very good! Asked for iced tea, prefer to have 3/4 unsweetened and 1/4 sweetened with lemon. Asked for that combination and they got it perfect. They have a dining room at that location also. Courteous help at drive-through window. Enjoyed it so much, will be going there for dinner for Mother’s Day at the location near our home.
Anderson SC restaurant phone number goes to a fax line. We have eaten there 4 times and if we go in, the order is always correct. If we use the driver thru, we never get a correct order. I have also seen on YP and other sites, this is common. It seems that this has not been addressed or remedied and although we like the food, we would appreciate getting what we paid for.
How about a reply? We cannot even call the manager to tell them. What is the phone number to that location?
